In what can only be described as one of the most unconventional charitable efforts in sports history, the VGGA Tour announced its commitment to donate $500,000 to 'fight rabies victims' — a campaign that, according to tour officials, is not about disease prevention but about the literal combat of those affected.
'Our mission is clear,' stated VGGA Commissioner Austin Searight at a press conference. “For too long, rabies victims have roamed unchecked, posing imaginary threats to society. It’s time to take action — with our fists.'
The announcement immediately drew criticism from public health organizations, legal experts, and, unsurprisingly, rabies victims themselves. Nevertheless, the campaign received unexpected backing from podcast host and MMA commentator Joe Rogan.
'This is bold. This is brave,” Rogan said on his podcast. 'No one’s ever thought to just physically beat rabies before. I’m in. I’ll double it if they reach 25 confirmed knockouts by December.'
Social media exploded in the wake of the announcement, with hashtags like #StopTheBite and #FightRabiesLiterally trending worldwide.
Despite widespread backlash, the VGGA Tour remains undeterred. A promotional video released Friday features several tour members shadowboxing, intercut with ominous footage of stray dogs and generic stock images of hospital beds.
When asked whether the campaign had any grounding in science or medical benefit, Searight replied, 'Not even a little. But it’s about sending a message.'
James Long captured his first victory of the 2025 VGGA Tour season at the Revelry Invitational, securing the win with a gutsy round. His perseverance paid off despite challenging course conditions and mounting pressure from the leaderboard.
